Situated
in the "Riviera Maya" that stretches from
Cancun to Tulum, Blue Sky Resort is ideally
located for a vacation. We are located at
Tankah - one hour south of Cancun airport
and ten minutes north of Tulum.
Blue Sky boasts beautiful, palm lined
beaches, bordered by the crystal clear
waters of the Caribbean, and a tranquil and
serene atmosphere and attitude that you
won't find in tourist meccas like Cancun or
Cozumel.
Once you've had time to relax you may need
some excitement. Just 40 minutes south of
Playa del Carmen, shopping and nightlife are
close at hand. Handicrafts range from fine
silver jewelry to delicately embroidered
clothing, carved wood and stone, hammocks,
leather goods, paintings, sculptures, and
more.
Or hit the beach and enjoy any water sport
from windsurfing to scuba diving, jet skiing
to peaceful snorkeling. Lie on the beach and
tan, or dance the night away to live music
at a local hotspot.

Take a short daytrip and visit Mayan ruins
nestled in the jungle at Coba, or
overlooking the Caribbean at Tulum. Visit
the natural aquariums at Xel-Ha, or the
nearby park at Xcaret.

Blue Sky Hotel
has had a uniquely different
concept since its inception. The
entire villa has been built with
simple affordable luxury in
mind. All of our rooms are
exquisitely appointed with
one-of-a-kind pieces of art -
from the original oil painting
imported from Cuba, to the hand
blown vases on marble top
tables, to the silver inlaid
full-length mirrors and the
handcrafted lamps. Even the
light fixtures are handmade and
something one would normally
find in a private luxury home.
All the beds are
Sealy mattresses with Guatemalan
bedspreads. A different Mayan
hand carved relief is above
every bed The outdoor chairs on
the expansive terraces are
originals made from the hardwood
of the Chiching tree.

Blue Sky -
Directions
Blue Sky is located approximately 1 hour and
15 minutes south of the airport, taking
highway 307 south. Since it is the only
highway that runs north and south, you can't
miss it.
About 5 kilometers (not miles) after Xel-Ha,
there is a road sign stating "Casa Caribeρa
3 KM".
At that 3-kilometer mark, there is another
sign "Blue Sky Casitas". Turn left here
(when making left hand turns, please pull
over to the right shoulder and wait until no
cars are coming in either direction, then
make your left turn) onto the frontage road
and continue for about 50 yards.
Then
turn left onto the road that will bring you
to the beach about (1 Kilometer) turn left
and Blue Sky is also about a Kilometer.
Go to the hotel just past Casa Cenote and
you are here.
Blue Sky - Frequently Asked Questions
Blue Sky is central to many amenities in the
area.
There is an endless amount of things to do
and see while in this area - along with
staying at the hotel in a very tranquil
atmosphere enjoying the beach, the hammocks,
the view, the kayaks and snorkeling right
from the beach.
Coba Ruins is about a 50 minute drive from
Blue Sky and one of our favorite Mayan ruins
to visit.
Questions and
answers
Q: I am interested in the local places to
eat and spend evenings at - how far away,
prices, local or touristy?
A: Eating out - Local and touristy
There is a restaurant next door from Blue
Sky, their food is good and they are famous
for their Sunday Barbeque.
Tulum is about a 10 minute drive from Blue
Sky with many, many, many great places to
eat; we will map you out our favorites.
Prices range from $5.00 to $30.00 US for a
dinner.
Our favorite local Mexican joint "El
Mariachi" gives you so much food you can
hardly eat it all and so tasty for $40.00
pesos a person ($5.00 US).
Whatever you are looking for we have great
cuisine in this area and unlimited choices.
Q: Is it calm and good for swimming, much
sea weed? I look forward to hearing more
about the beautiful property.
A: Blue Sky is located in a bay called Tank
Ha which has a reef across the bay that acts
as a breaker for the waves so the bay is
very calm. The snorkeling on the reef is
amazing, very healthy and alive. Our guest
use the kayaks and boogie boards to get to
the reef and snorkel about half a km. We
have a very thick soft sandy beach, however,
there is mossy rock in the ocean - and our
ocean front is shallow waters and crystal
clear. Bring water shoes - real cheap at
Wal-Mart $5.00.
Next door at Casa Cenote Snorkeling in this
fresh water spring is both refreshing and a
wonderful site. The cenotes underground
river ends up in the ocean in front of Casa
Cenote - this is a great attraction with
tons fish in shallow waters.
Hidden worlds (10 km from Blue Sky) - has
underground cavern snorkeling - amazing -
the IMAX movie that is out, "Amazing Caves",
is filmed here at Hidden Words - awesome
snorkel day or scuba dive.
Xel Ha - (6 km from Blue Sky) is a snorkel
park - a bit touristy - but out of all the
touristy things on this coastline it is my
favorite.
Q: We are definitely in need of a quiet
paradise, but like the accessibility to the
adventurous activities nearby.
A: Nature - Marc and I will map out a day
trip for you that will cover an amazing
beach that few people know about and a
couple of hidden cenotes (fresh waters
springs from underground rivers). And of
course we will not send you off with out a
cooler full of ice and drinks :)
Great long beach walks from either direction
of Blue Sky.
Coba Ruins
Tulum Ruins
Xel Ha Snorkel Park
Actun Chen - Under Ground Cavern Tour - very
very interesting
Blue Sky has complementary
- 2 Bicycles
- 2 Kayaks
- Boogie boards
- Mask, snorkel & fins
Q: Do you recommend that we get a rental
car, or may the areas of interest and places
to eat be reached by walking or hiking?
A: Pretty much all of our guests come with a
rental car, however it is possible to get by
with out a vehicle. There is a restaurant
next door and the rest of the restaurants
are in Tulum, about a 10 minute drive. We
have had guests bicycle in to Tulum and back
about 10 km.
Taxi service is available to Tulum from Blue
Sky is $8.00 us one way.
There are buses in Tulum that will take you
to the Coba ruins (one of our favorites).
I have been hearing from our guests that
they get a good deal for a rental when they
book a car for a whole week. $150.00 to
$200.00 US for a weekly rental. ThatΉs a
great deal in that a car rental for one day
is $64.00 US.
It really depends on the type of holiday you
are planning. The guests that come without a
car come to relax at the hotel. The people
that come with a rental car usually plan to
do something every other day and in that
case a car is very useful. There is also a
rental car agency in Tulum, so if you decide
later in your stay you want a car for a day
here and a day there it will be possible.

Awakening
to the sound of the ocean, I lifted my head
to see one of the most beautiful coastlines
on Earth. Being in the Caribbean means for
me, lazing about. That is what I did. I took
about a half an hour to roll out of the soft
cotton sheets. A very short distance to the
dinning room for a carafe of fresh brewed
coffee - then back to my terrace. Needless
to say, I didn't leave my lounge chair for
the next 2 hours. The power and tranquility
of wave after wave breaking had enraptured
me. That was just a small moment of my
wonderful trip to Blue Sky, but an important
one. It was in that moment that I realized
my shoulders had dropped about 2 inches and
I had left my job and the city behind. The
rest of my stay only got better.--J.
