Zamas,
the original name for Tulum, means new
beginnings, as in sunrise or tomorrow. It is
the Mayan Word from which Zamas derives its
name. Situated south of the Tulum Archeological
site (1-1/2 hours south of the Cancun airport),
Zamas' 15 thatch roof bungalows sit upon a cove
and blend Beautifully with the elements of sea
and sand. For your culinary pleasure Que Fresco
Restaurant features Mayan, Mexican and Italian
specialties. Fresh fish caught daily, sweet
salsas, pizza cooked in the wood burning oven,
a variety of vegetarian foods and tropical
drinks made from freshly squeezed juices delight
our guests everyday. Come experience Zamma, new
beginnings at Zamas.
Zamas is located 5 km South of the Tulum Ruins on
the Yucatan Peninsula and about 1 1/2 hours
from the Cancun Airport.
Some activities to do while
here:
1. Snorkeling and Diving: Sea and fresh water
snorkeling and diving are spectacular in this
area.
2. Mayan Ruins & Cultural tours: Tulum and Coba
are in close vicinity as well as Chichen Itza
(about 2 hours away).
3. Bone Fishing & Bird Watching: Some of the
best bone fishing in the world may be found in
the Boca Paila lagoon, one half hour south of
Zamas. Equally spectacular are the rare bird
sightings when guests have taken a drive 20
minutes south in the Sian Ka'an Reserve.
4. Gorgeous Beaches!
"Home was
Zamas." The room was simple with a huge tiled
bathroom with hot
shower and lots of clean drinking water. On the
porch were two hammocks. On the
beach right in front of the cabana were two
low-slung wooden chairs and a small table
under a palapa. Barely two minutes away was the
hotel's excellent restaurant, whose chef
turned out dishes like grilled snapper with
olive salsa, shrimp with achiote, honey-mustard
chicken. Heat got you down? Hop over for an
agua de melon -cantelope juice-surely
the most refreshing drink on the planet. This
could be paradise!"
