Q&A
This is our favorite section of the website.
Here is where we post some of the emails that
you send in regards to your own wedding planning
process. While we make every effort to answer
all of the emails we get, here are our replies
to some of the most commonly asked questions. As
always you are welcome to submit your questions.
WHY A WEDDING ABROAD?
If you’re looking for a romantic dream
wedding without the headaches and the hassles, a
wedding away from home may just be the answer to
your prayers. Getting married in a remote
destination has literally ‘taken off’ in
popularity throughout the nineties, and is
destined to be one of the major travel and
marrying trends of the new millennium. Getting
married abroad is also usually a great deal less
expensive than organizing a large wedding at
home, and lots of couples prefer to take their
vows privately or with a few close friends.
WHO
Guests love the fact that they have a
perfect excuse to take a mini vacation to attend
your wedding. Make sure to check with those you
wish to invite to the wedding before you begin
making plans, to determine whether the majority
would be able to make the trip -- you're not
responsible for their travel or accommodation
expenses, so it can be a pricey trip for those
interested in attending. (Be sure to remind them
it's a vacation opportunity for them as well as
a wedding!) Send invitations to everyone you'd
like to have there on your wedding day -- many
may not be able to make it, but they'll
appreciate the invite (and they may surprise you
and come!). Also, be sure your guests know that
they need passports. Then wave them off for
their journey home and start your honeymoon!!

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS TO MARRY IN MEXICO?
There are two forms of weddings performed in
Mexico: THE CIVIL WEDDING (Matrimonio Civil) and
the RELIGIOUS/NON-DENOMINATIONAL ceremony. The
Civil Ceremony changes your marital status from
single to married. Your proof of marriage is
recognized as legal throughout the world. A
Spanish-speaking Judge performs the civil
ceremony. We are with you to translate the
ceremony. This can be compared to a ceremony
performed by the Justice of the Peace in the
United States or Canada. The Judge’s vows are
set and cannot be altered.
The other ceremony is the
Religious/Non-denomination Ceremony. This
ceremony does not change your marital status
here in Mexico or anywhere in the world. If you
want to perform the civil ceremony at your home
either before or after your Mexican wedding, you
can, or you can do both the civil ceremony and
the religious/Non-denominational wedding here.
For a Non-Denominational ceremony, you may
choose your wedding vows from some of the
Minister’s favorites. You may alter or embellish
these vows in any way you choose. You may write
your own vows or include special poems,
readings, songs, etc. If you need ideas or help
with any of the words you want to say to each
other, your Minister will gladly assist you.
DO I NEED TO GET MY MARRIAGE LICENSE IN MY
HOMETOWN BEFORE COMING TO CANCUN?
No, all the legal paperwork is completed in
Mexico.
WHEN DO I RECEIVE MY MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE?
You receive your completed paperwork
immediately after the wedding.
HOW FAR IN ADVANCE SHOULD I BOOK MY WEDDING?
A wedding is usually planned 6 months in
advance to ensure you have available to you the
best professionals for organizing your plans as
well as the locations of your choice. For large
parties and receptions of up to 100 guests, 9 -
12 months ahead is not too soon. If it is a
special date like Valentines Day, Christmas Eve,
New Years Eve and all major holidays, plan as
far in advance as possible. Short notice or last
minute weddings are okay, providing your date is
available.
CAN YOU ARRANGE A WEDDING WITH ONLY ONE OR
TWO WEEKS NOTICE?
We can certainly coordinate a spontaneous,
last minute wedding as long as you are flexible
and are able to make quick, definite decisions
on what you want. Full payment is due
immediately upon booking any wedding within 30
days of the event.
HOW DO I CONFIRM MY WEDDING?
To confirm your wedding date, a
non-refundable $500 deposit is required. This
reserves the date for your wedding ceremony with
either the judge or the Minister.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER WE RESERVE THE WEDDING
DATE?
After reserving the wedding date, the next
step is to reserve the location you want to use
for the wedding and/or wedding reception. The
next step is to decide on the details of your
wedding such as photographer, video grapher,
flowers, music, food and beverage, etc.
HOW LONG IS THE CEREMONY?
The civil ceremony itself is very short,
about 10 minutes. Your entire ceremony will be
approximately 20 minutes from the processional
to the recessional, depending on the size of
your wedding party. The religious ceremony runs
between 20 to 30 minutes from the processional
to the recessional, depending on whether you
book a musician/singer, have family members or
friends participate in the ceremony, and other
variables.
CAN WE MAKE ANY CHANGES TO OUR WEDDING ONCE
WE ARE BOOKED WITH YOU?
Many brides decide to add on items and
services to their original order. We will gladly
accept changes.
WHY DO I NEED AN ON-SITE WEDDING COORDINATOR?
In most cases in the U.S. you do not need a
coordinator, unless you’re having a large
wedding. However, in Mexico or other foreign
countries, budgeting for a coordinator should be
a priority. The majority of individuals with
whom you’ll speak at the various resorts here in
Mexico are not trained as wedding coordinators.
They are sales managers, food and beverage
managers, assistant managers, or just
salespeople, and have many other jobs that will
take precedence over planning the specifics of
your wedding. Remember, this is your wedding,
one of the most important days of your life. Do
you really want to leave this day to chance?
WHAT IS THE BEST TIME OF YEAR TO COME TO
MEXICO?
Anytime! Mexico is always warm and
beautiful. July, August and September are the
warmest months. The summer can be a little rainy
as well. The driest months are December to
April.
HOW MANY DAYS BEFORE OUR WEDDING WOULD YOU
RECOMMEND ARRIVING IN MEXICO?
We recommend at least 2 days beforehand so
you can relax from your flight and look and feel
rested and refreshed for your special day.
WHAT IS THE BEST TIME OF DAY TO HAVE MY
SUNSET WEDDING?
The general rule is an hour before sunset
for a simple wedding, with one hour of
photography. This takes advantage of the
flattering and diffused lighting conditions. In
the tropics, there is very little twilight and
once the sun sets, it soon gets dark. Therefore,
the time of your wedding really depends on the
number of guests in your party and how long you
expect your photo-taking to last.
WHAT HAPPENS IF IT RAINS ON OUR WEDDING DAY?
In the rare event of bad weather for a beach
wedding, we will provide a covered location.
WE ARE INTERESTED IN HAVING OUR WEDDING
VIDEOTAPED. WHEN DOES THE VIDEOGRAPHY BEGIN?
Filming begins at the location of your
choice before the ceremony, capturing the groom,
best man, guests and bridesmaids and, of course,
the arrival of the bride. Your videographer
continues filming the events through to the
appropriate finishing time, depending upon which
video package you have chosen. The footage is
then edited into a polished, final production.
As with still photography, the more guests you
have at your wedding, the more video coverage
you will need.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO RECEIVE MY PHOTOS
AND VIDEO?
We will make every attempt to get your
photos and video to you prior to your leaving
Cancun. If you are leaving early the next
morning after your wedding, then we will DHL the
photos and negatives to you for a charge of $25
each package. The video takes a little longer as
the professional videographer needs time to edit
it.
CAN WE BE MARRIED AT SEA?
We charter the "Pachanga," a new Catamaran,
exclusively for you and your wedding party and
perform your ceremony out in the Caribbean Sea.
